Did you check the output of phpinfo() to verify the new PHP was loaded? If
not I suspect that the PKG didn't do a restart on Apache so you didn't
notice it failed, but after you left Apache restarted.

I have not tested the PKG, but this error could mean that you have an
extension= line for libpdf in php.ini, but the file doesn't exist in
/etc/httpd/modules/php/. Look through php.ini and check the system using
find and locate for libpdf* files. If the libpdf* file isn't there and
there is an extension line you can uncomment the extension line by putting a
";" in front of it and then restart Apache.
