[cobalt-users] installing curl with ssl

where in the world did cobalt put the openssl lib files?? i've been trying to install an upgrade of curl for more than two weeks now but the box has thrown me a few problems. I've installed with:
 ./configure --with-ssl
 ./configure --with-ssl=/usr/bin
 ./configure --with-ssl=/usr/sbin

but am always told that curl can't find the "ssl directory and/or lib files". well, those are the directories openssl is in so... what's up?
i've located two files i believe to be the openssl lib files:
  /lib/libssl.so.0.9.6b
  /lib/libssl.so.2

and a third file that i believe is only applicable to miva merchant
  /usr/lib/apache/libssl.so

My next attempt at this beast will be to point the --with-ssl to these directories. But I'm growing very doubtfull that this will solve my problem. Anyone know why curl can't find the openssl dir and/or lib files?
