Kim, I haven't installed that version on a RaQ yet, but if I have installed
versions of Perl newer than that pre-installed on the RaQ in the past (on
several models). I do so by installing into a different directory than the
pre-installed version. Instructions have been posted on how to install 5.6
on a RaQ in the default location without breaking the Cobalt modules, but
there's no guarantee it'll work with 5.8 and there's little downside (and
virtually no risk) to installing 5.8 in a separate location. If you decide
to overwrite your existing Perl make sure you have good backups and test on
a development box if possible.
