The aim is the same on any flavour of windoze.
click >network (in control panel)
make sure TCP/IP is installed for card you are using
Select properties for TCP/IP - on the card you are going to use
select specify ip address
1. Set IP address of network card as above (192.168.1.2) - if more than 1
card fitted make sure you configure the right one!
2. Set subnet mask to 255.255.255.0
3. Don't set any other parameters on windoze machine
4. Set Raq to same subnet (192.168.1.1) and mask (255.255.255.0)- Make sure
you use the correct network connector!! (Network connector 1 - Right hand
one as you look at the back of the Raq)
5. Connect both machines together with cross over cable or 2 normal cat5
cables and a hub between.
6. Reboot machines as needed following IP address changes.
Ping 192.168.1.1 from PC and you should have a connection.
If working your ping should be <10 ms
If no ping achieved check you have the right IP addresses and you typed them
correctly.
If still no joy try know working cables from a know working box (tell the
user I said you could borrow them ;-))
If still no ping something is BROKE!
If you have a working network already set the windoze pc to connect to that
network as above but find out what range of IP addresses are in use on this
network.
If you get that to work you know the pc card and cable is good.
Try the same connection with another Cat5 lead to prove you have 2 working
leads.
If you have a hub or switch put this in between the 2 cables you have just
tested, if all still works on the windoze network your hardware is all fine.
Use all the same hardware you have just tested and plug the Raq in to one
end set the IP address of the raq to something like you have just been using
for the windoze network (add 1 onto whatever your pc is set to)
If you want info on windoze network addresses etc type winipcfg.exe from run
box click the network card and more info and this should tell you its
settings.
The Raq will not show up in the network neighbourhood on the windoze machine
as this needs SMB if you need this try a Qube.
Hope this helps and good luck with the nasty windoze machines!
If I have missed anything out I am sure someone will tell me!
Here ends the lesson for today children.
Paul.
