[cobalt-users] Can't relay mail from local site

Greetings.

I'm trying to use the form_submit Frontpage extensions on one site, but
keep getting an error.

<error>

FrontPage Error.
User: please report details to this site's webmaster.
Webmaster: please see the server's system log for more details.

</error>

I found a number of workarounds/fixes/hacks in the archives:

http://list.cobalt.com/pipermail/cobalt-users/2002-March/065824.html

However, I've discovered that my problem involves mail relaying.

More Background:
I have a block of 10 ips on my RaQ 3i (running 4i OS): xxx.xxx.xxx.160
through xxx.xxx.xxx.169. The primary eth0 interface is xxx.xxx.xxx.160.

I have 3 sites running on xxx.xxx.xxx.160. The FP form submission
actions work fine, both for sending notification via email and for writing
to the local disk.

However, the site that returns the FP error is on xxx.xxx.xxx.161. For
this site, only FP write-to-disk actions work. It's only when a mail
notification is specified that an error is returned.

So, I went back to the archives and learned about "Relay for the following
Hosts/Domains" in the Email Server settings, found in the GUI. Here's what
I found there:

xxx.xxx.xxx.160
xxx.xxx.xxx.161
dev.primarydomainname.com
primarydomainname.com

To that, I added:

127.0.0.1
dev.secondarydomainname.com
secondarydomainname.com
mail.secondarydomainname.com (the secondary domain names are on .161)

I still get the FP error.

After checking the portsentry messages in the admin mailbox, it appears as
if ALL mail forwarding is being denied, even from the IP's/domains on the
local box. (other than the IP set on eth0)

The easy solution is to move the problem site to the .160 IP and forget
about it. However, this problem will definitely occur again, so why not
fix it, eh?

;)

Did all of that make sense? Did I provide enough information? I know just
enough about Un*x administration to be dangerous.

TIA

-jf.
