You are missing my point.
when a catch all email address is set up, all the spammer needs is the
domain name. They can send to anyone@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx and the mail will get
through. The spam blocking software works a little, but not against the
masses that use standard phrases to get the mail through. It really does
make a difference. However, if you don't mind the spam and don't want to
miss any email because of typos etc, then by all means, use the
@www.domainname.com.
