Sure it's an appliance. And, as an appliance operator, none of us should
expect to be "tinkering" under the hood (g). It's probably unrealistic to
wish that you could keep your server updated.

Oh course they do. One of these days, some savvy Cobalt users and/or
folks who see the market potential will offer things to us appliance
operators that Sun won't.
The sad part is that as long as there is a ready source of folks who need
appliances, there will be a ready source of new customers who don't know
any better, and Sun can maintain it's myopic viewpoint on customer
loyalty.
