An IRC server is an IRC server - there's nothing specific about an IRC server that will affect a system. Its a daemon that runs completely seperate to everything else, and doesn't really depend on anything. I don't understand why you're asking...
I run three IRCd's on my XTR - UnrealIRCD, hybrid, and cyclone. They all run fine.
