Thats because it works real time.
if he had connected at that moment you were watching your blank screen
you would have been able to see the conversation between his machine and
yours.
start it up there same as u did then call him up and ask him to do
check his mail ( make sure you have his IP correct ) and you should
then see the packets flowing.
the use of the -X flag will convert the HEX to ASCII so u can follow the
conversation and see any errors in the payloads which might appear from
either end.
although i do think its a temporary problem with his ISP as i mentioned
in the previous post.
