Re: [cobalt-users] what is the best..Spamassasin? Mailscanner?

It seems to me that Spamassassin and Mailscanner address two slightly different problems - spam and email-borne viruses, respectively. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong about Mailscanner, which I don't use.) They're both free(*), so why not install them both?

Please don't laugh at me on this one, or at least do it very loudly - If users use programs like Webmail; are there email exploits that can damage the RAQ server? Or are the AV mail-scan programs just stopping to virus from getting to a client computer running Eudora/Outlook type programs? Are the RAQ servers themselves, whether running openwebmail or client-email software vulnerable to destruction? Or is only hacking we are really worried about for our server's well being. Since openwebmail requires the user to download attachments, they don't actually execute of the server is there still danger going on? HTML based email type stuff (which again should be client-side interpreted)?

As I get spamassassin and possibly others running I want to be sure I understand exactly what I'm protecting against and why.

My lawyer in Colorado always gave me a smile when he ended phone calls/emails with a line most of you could probably appreciate: And have a wonderful day in your sh---ty computer job :)
