[cobalt-users] [RAQ550] init-did-not-start

I have a problem which seems to have started when I deleted a .war package
from the UI while logged in under 'admin'. The .war file was uploaded by a
site administrator and I think, though not 100% certain that the problem
resulted from a different user (admin) deleting the .war file.
Logged in as admin, I tried deleting the .war file. The GUI did not remove
the the .war (still showed as deployed). I then logged in as the site
administrator and tried to delete it, with the same results. I assumed
deleting the site would take care of it, so I deleted the site. However,
when trying to add the site back, the server wouldn't and I didn't see any
error messages. After attempting again to add the new site without success,
I added a different test site successfully.

After adding the test site I tried to remove it but recieved the
init-did-not-start error. After much searching I found that restarting httpd
and/or admserv allowed me to delete and re-add the original site. However,
when I re-added the original the .war file was still deployed (listed in the
GUI), but since the site was deleted, the deployment directory obviously
doesn't exist.

After searching all the web server and tomcat configuration files I can't
find any references to the deployment directory so I assume they are removed
and it is the GUI that is just reporting incorrectly. I did notice that
there are files and directories under /usr/jakarta-tomcat/work that refer to
the deployed .war file even after the site has been removed. I have no clue
as to what the work directory is for so don't want to just remove these
files/directories without knowing.

I've attempted to delete the .war file through the GUI, delete the site and
re-add it several times. I can add/remove other sites without trouble but
after removing the original site I get the init-did-not-start error and have
to restart http/admserv to get it functioning again. I am sure the problem
has to do with not deleting the .war file from the GUI, but have no clue as
to how to do this.

After playing with this all day I find that I now get multiple listing of
deployed war files. Does anyone know where the GUI keeps track of the
installed files and if so can they be removed?

Grateful for any help whatsoever, Richard
