Not strictly true, I've noticed that a number of switch
vendors and OS platforms seem incapable of setting duplex
settings if one end os hard coded, especially SUN and Bay
Accelars, and Cisco and Linux, when the switches are
hardcoded to full duples Solaris and Linux seem to think its
half duplex.

Best bet if possible is to force both ends.

On Linux this can be achieved by adding
options netDriver full_duplex=1
i.e.
options eepro100 full_duplex=1
options 3c59x full_duplex=1

For a RaQ4 this would be, as it seems to have dual Intel
eepro100s:
options eepro100 full_duplex=1

NOTE: Not all Network cards support this especially things
like the Compaq Thunderlan cards.

There is a tool mii-diag which can help display you current
card settings if your ethernet card is MII compatible.

Hope this helps,
