hi Gavin, Maxime, Simon and Bob, & you all around here
Thanks you for all your advises
As some of you suggest, I HAVE installed openwebmail !
the main advantages for me (a good server/linux admin
would not see the same advantages as me...) :
-one click install with the available package for
openwaibmail on all the site on my server
-dictionnary lib also by the way
and I have no regret hanving follow your suggestion,
thanks you all !
BUT
---
having tested now both, I am still shure that
squirrelmail can compete with Yahoo, Hotmail or MSN
mail, on a smaller scale (number of users) but with
same functions provided to its users...
what openwebmail can NOT ! for example :
-no information for plugin or self dev (-->that makes
that pratically there is NOT A SINGLE plugin vailable
!)
-except template (wich are good, on site or users
basis, excellent), customizing the code is hard
because of perl and poor doc
-ergonomy could be much improved, really : no menu
always visible (you have to return to top menu then go
back), is some pages, no section title, you don't now
where you are....for 'basic' custumer=not easy!
so I decided :
- I keep openwebmail in all my sites for my own use
(i do not need for myself a perfect clean UI)
- on the site where I will offer free web based
email, I install 1 squirrel mail with all the usefull
options, plugins and customization (advert, MOTD..)
The good point, is that as they only are IMAP
frontend, they can coexists.
So still SOME QUESTIONS
-----------------------
#1
gavin, within config of squirrel :
when config-->menu-->option 2(server settings)
can you please indicated a concret example
I have tried many, some of them works, but I don't
knwo the best (SMTP or sendmaid, Cyrus, UW...)
please give practical example, as you understood..i am
a complete lamer or give a screen shot of text copy of
your best config in
perl conf.pl & then option 2(server setting) filled
#2
still have a server/site problem with mail (with both
software!!)
I can send message but not receive from outside
I get the error when I send from ouside :
<test@xxxxxxxxxx>:
**my server IP** does not like recipient.
Remote host said: 550 5.7.1 <test@xxxxxxxxxx>...
Relaying denied.
(note : the user 'test' exist on 'mysite')
??? probably a bad server config within the manager
?????
Long mail ... thank you all for your help & time
Bye
Fabrice
