I get that too. Generally it's nothing to worry about, if mail delivery and
all other services were working fine before. The SMTP server stops accepting
connections after it has a certain number of open connections. Then the
Active Monitor comes along and tries to connect, but can't, so it thinks
it's down. After the mail logjam clears, the Active Monitor can then
connect, and thinks everything's OK.

I don't think this is it with my system, I had the alert at 2AM, 6:30AM and 7:30AM, when there is practically no load at all. It doesn't seem to be load dependent. There are times that I know the server is being pushed pretty hard and at those times I don't seem to have any problems, it *appears* to be random to time of day, server load, etc.

Are there any log files that might indicate why it happens?
