It seems to happen when I receive a message (or a form with the email
address field used as a replyto) from a malformed email address. For
instance, if I receive a form and the person has typed in myname@xxxxxxxxxxx
instead of hotmail.com, when I reply it will send the message to
myname@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx - it's only doing this to malformed
addresses, or occasional ones with more than one dot, such as long academic
ones, but not simple .co.uk. I was told I could reconfigure sendmail to
stop it doing this. I just lost a very good friend because he thought I was
trying to divert his email replies to me so I could steal his clients, so I
really want to turn this off.
