RE: [cobalt-users] RAQ4R - Apache Patch & Web Server Not Responding

Thanks for the info..

I did locate the How To for ininstalling the PKG file and did as instructed
and saw no errors. I then rebooted the server and still have no web server
service running.

The initial problem started with a email sent to the admin of the Raq4r
stating exactly as follows:

Sub:
===============================
the web server is not responding

Message:
===============================
The main web server appears to be down. Make sure that the server's network
interface has been correctly configured in the network control panel. If
it all looks correct, try rebooting the server; if this still does not
correct the problem, contact Sun Cobalt Technical Support.

This problem resulted after installation of Sun's patch for Apache. I
hadn't rechecked operation of the web services after the reboot as I should
have and was only made aware of the problem by email.

FYI - I was disconnected a couple of times while attempting to FTP the PKG
file to the server and am suspect that there may be a possibility that the
file was damaged in transit. Of course I have also heard some grumblings
that the PKG has caused problems for others as well.

At this point I'm thinking the best route would be to try and re-install the
PKG after FTPing a fresh copy to the server. The big obstacle here though
is how to install a PKG file from the command line.

Any assistance will be appreciated.

Thanks again..

Jerry

There's a great tutorial at pkgmaster.  Here's a link:
http://pkgmaster.com/howto/cobalt_uninstall_howto.shtml

I've never tried doing this, so I'm no help there!

Can anyone assist me with this?

/etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd restart

This will restart the service for you. Instead of restart you could
substitute stop and then start to achieve the same effect.

Tell us what the error is that you are getting and I'm sure someone here
will be able to help you fix it. Which patch caused the problems?
