Tim, I believe if httpd.conf is missing it is generated from
/etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf.master and so if that file still exists you
should be in good shape. Unless that doesn't exist on the XTR - I
don't
have access to an XTR right now.

I think I'm getting somewhere now (and boy am I learning a lot). I've
copied the missing bits from httpd.conf.master and restarted httpd,
all looks good.
The strange redirection appears to have been down to the /sites/home
virtualhost section being missing. I've put that back too.
My test site has come back but I think the mysql installation is
screwed. I've uninstalled, re-installed and got a bunch of errors, so
i've uninstalled again and just requested a server reboot.
It's going to be a long night I think...
