My Linux book says it is normal to have many httpd
processes but only one of them is the main process.
The owner of the main process should be root. Other
processes are children of this main process. Number of
children processes is related to how many web sites
you have and other reasons. Kill this main process
will kill all httpd. You can try
kill <Main_Httpd_Process_ID>
This is the same as
/etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd stop
Don't forget to run
/etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd start
after that.
