I would say no.... from an earlier e-mail from Bruce:
"we even got Seagate to make firmware-level timing changes in
the base product to make the disks behave better in our systems"
I would say that the retail drives would not have these changes in them....
food for thought when buying a retail level drive versus an x-option drive.
Note also that the typical Frys or other retail store will get drives that may
have gone through quite a few different resellers or other channels before
landing in the retail store. Sun has a direct purchase agreement with Seagate
where the drives go directly from Seagate's factory to Sun's.
These things may or may not make a difference to you the user as you use a
drive from either source.
