Subject: [cobalt-users] Chat client server program selection/questions
for RaQ3
I am assisting a client with selecting and implementing a commercial chat
client server program (no, not IRC) which will be hosted on a RaQ3. We've
looked at a number of programs, including DigiChat, RealChat, VolanoChat,
etc., but have had little luck in finding information on vendor sites and
from vendors directly about whether their products will run on a RaQ3,
what's required/recommended and whether they'll handle the load expected.
I've also searched the cobalt-* archives and haven't found anything useful.
Right now the client is leaning towards RealChat http://www.rcsoft.net/.
The client prefers a chat program which can handle 200 concurrent users,
though I expect that if it can handle 100+ that might be manageable. The
client has other requirements (in fact, the client will consider other chat
programs if they're a good fit), but we've been able to gauge the match with
the other criteria from vendor info. What we haven't been able to do is
find a vendor who will point us to client sites running their product on a
RaQ or info. about the real-world performance that can be expected on a
RaQ3. To keep things simple let's assume it has the max RAM installed and
there is no other activity on the server which contributes significantly to
load.
Do you have experience running any of the above chat programs on a RaQ?
Other chat programs? Can you provide statistics for the # of concurrent
users at which performance is acceptable? sluggish? What servlet / JSP
engine are you running? Are there other engines that are recommended for
the product which will install on a RaQ? Can you send the URL of the chat
program on or off-list so I can take a look?
Any and all advice and information is welcome. If there's additional info.
which I need to provide or other questions I should be asking let me know.
