How complex is the database?  If you want triggers and to enforce
referential integrity on foreign keys, MySQL is out; choose
PostgreSQL instead.

One can move data via various methods.  I usually set up bare
tables in PostgreSQL, dump foreign environment data into CSV/TAB
tables, load data into pgsql, then add constraints.

If accessing a pgsql database via ODBC, be sure to configure
properly pgsql beforehand.  There's a query to run that adds a
few things to template1 that are needed for ODBC clients.

Can you post more details, please?

Anyone else think that the ASCII-art rendition of Sun's logo
unfortunately resembles _das Hakenkreuz_?  Not as bad as WinXP,
but, still...
