That works IF your needs and their offerings match.
For example: hours of access, security of server, redundancy of
connection, and long battery or generator backup times.
A friend called me a few days ago; he runs a successful hosting company;
he has 18,000 multiple clients spread over multiple Dell rackmount
systems, using Red Hat and Plesk. He's got three full-time admins,
enough for his hosting business. His customer support is available 8
hours a day, 7 days a week.
He called to ask me what he should charge for colocating the server for
a friend of a friend. When I told him what we charged, and that it
covered 24/7 monitoring, 24/7 reboot, and 24/7 access, in addition to 1
hour UPS and 72 hour generator power backup, he decided he didn't want
to be in the colocation business.
