That depends who you ask. I don't use InterBase, but I use both MySQL and
PostgreSQL pretty heavily. My rule of thumb is to use MySQL unless the
project has needs that are better served by using PostgreSQL. PostgreSQL
has some functionality that MySQL doesn't have like subselects and stored
procedures, but IMO it's more difficult to administer a PostgreSQL server,
the learning curve for clients and other developers is steeper and there is
less open source software designed to work with PostgreSQL and fewer skilled
developers who work with it.

I thought the spec sheet showed it had MySQL pre-installed. I don't have
access to a 550. If you have access to a 550 please verify whether MySQL is
installed. rpm -qa | grep -i mysql, locate mysql, and ps aux mysql will
probably point you in the right direction.

Describe the project and your experience with databases and I'll give you my
opinion. If you're new to databases I'd say MySQL, but my true answer will
depend on the details you share.
