[cobalt-users] [RaQ2] SMTP server failure after RaQ2-All-Security Release update

Help!

I've got a RaQ2 that was running flawlessly for the past couple of years
until yesterday when I installed the two most recent RaQ2-All-Security
Releases 4.0.1-xxxxx.

RaQ2-All-Security Release 4.0.1-13453 was installed first. The server did
not reboot so I rebooted from the admin GUI. Things seemed to be working
well so I installed the RaQ2-All-Security-4.0.1-9769 to solve the
greyed-out web statistics problem [no reboot required].

Last evening, several hours after these updates were installed, the active
monitor light began flashing and the SMTP was reported missing in action.

I have stopped and restarted sendmail several times*. It works for a short
period then quits again.

* telnet in
  su - root
  /etc/rc.d/init.d/sendmail stop
  /etc/rc.d/init.d/sendmail start

What do I need to do to get the e-mail flowing again? [Note:
POP-before-SMTP is not installed as is the case for some other users.]

The GUI shows the following software updates installed:

Cobalt OS Release 4.0
RaQ2-All-Security Release 4.0.1-10750
RaQ2-All-Security Release 4.0.1-13453
RaQ2-All-System Release 3.0.2-6449
RaQ2-All-System Release 4.0.1-7-9925
RaQ2-en-OSUpdate Release 4.0

Note: the RaQ2-All-Security-4.0.1-9769 was installed and it did cure the
greyed-out web server statistics report options. It does not show in the
installed software window however.

Thanks for any suggestions
