Eddy,

I think we are getting off track here.... all of my posts have the presupposition that we are talking about the original thread.... which was discussing the ability of a mail "server" to handle 1000 messages per minute....which would require a mail "server", hence my arguments that you need some sort of mail serving software to be on the recieving end of things...

my problem was with the original post, which stated that they sent mail using raw smtp on the server as opposed to some program like sendmail... and my response was that there was no such thing as "raw" smtp running on the server side of things... it still needs a daemon running smtp-like software.

I am well aware that one can "send" mail using whatever they please.

No there doesn't.  One can send mail without accepting, just like
one can browse the Web without running a webserver.

It's called whatever you want.  I can write a program, call it
anything, and have it send mail without using any MTA on the
local box, and without having it accept mail.  And it matters not
what someone else's box is running.
