I have since discovered that you cannot login as root if there is no hdd
space available on /var partition. This is the case with my problem.
Only now I need to know how to delete files owned by root when all I
have is admin access to telnet and FTP.
Apparently no root access allowed as there is no hdd space for logging.
By the way the server if co-located so I would prefer to be able to
delete old maillog files (some 40Mb) from remote using admin ftp or
telnet.
Also anyone know how to increase the size of the /var partition? So this
won't happen in the future.
