I spoke with a good source at Sun the other day about some other topics, but
he did confirm that several new units are in the pipe including a RaQ5 due
out in about 6 months. Sun has made a VERY significant commitment to Linux
in general and Cobalt in particular... it wouldn't surprise me to see a
Solaris Cobalt too.

A solaris cobalt would not surprise me, they are having such a hard time getting linux to work (hehehehe). Of course that would leave all who linux cobalt's out in the cold... they will not even upgrade us to the linux kernel 2.4 because they don't know how!!... that is just PITIFULLY wrong. In 6 months we will see what SUN comes out with, if anything at all..... come on sun rush a product to market and screw us all once more.

'The friction of war' does seem to have clouded things up a bit in Sunland,
the merging of these two entities has indeed created some friction and I do
get the feeling that the citizens of Sunland aren't too happy about taking
on the new Cobalt line... but this has been mostly at the support and spare
parts (are there any?) level.

In their defense, I have lead a few mergers on a smaller scale and can
certainly feel their pain, it's not an easy thing to merge two companies
together effeciently and effectively. In an industry where change is made
and expected at a frantic pace, we should remember that Cobalt is still in
it's infancy at 3-4 years old and, in addition, will need more time to
fully integrate with Sun..... like it or not.

Correct me if wrong, but sun only bought cobalt because they were seen as a HUGE competitor to SUN. Now, sun tries ever so hard to be in the same position cobalt was in the market, but fail. Sun never wanted to merge cobalt, they just wanted to use the cobalt name, product for a quick buck and then trash it.
So it seems.

Love em or leave em but I wouldn't expect anything close to perfection for
awhile and a little dissention in the ranks at Sun/Cobalt will, I am sure,
be seen and heard from time to time, they are human, their products are not.

One thing holds true in the computer world "garbage in, garbage out", as soon as sun learn's (hahahahahaha) how to use linux (sorry, hahahahahaah) then maybe it will work...

Thus endeth the sermon on this fine Sunday morning.
