I must admit I to have failed to install the glibc update that cobalt
provided.

I had at the time a production RaQ4i which I installed all patches OS2 and
glibc alike, however after the glibc patch was installed strange things
happened. The first thing I noticed was a memory issue, after a few days the
free memory was so low that I would have to restart the server.

Then one night around midnight the server went offline, and I did not notice
until 3.30am (now have a server watch type program to notify me :-)),
however it failed to respond to pings, ssh anything !. I called the
datacentre and ask them to reboot it and they did. After a few mins the
server was back up, nothing in the logs to indicate why it died, all I can
assume is that the free memory was exhausted.

After a few days my new RaQ4i arrived from the states and I loaded the OS
Restore disc applied all patches including OS2 Update and decided not to
install the glibc update. Since the new server has been co-located I have
had no problems, but im concerned that the glibc update is an important one.

I am as much in the dark as you ... On one hand I should install it, however
if the problem comes back I have no way of uninstalling the update and have
a box I have to reboot every few days.......

So yes .. I would be nervous..
