Slow connection on Linux / Unix hosts are generally related to a reverse DNS
issue.  What happens is when a client connects, the server will try to
validate the user.  It performs a reverse lookup of their IP address.  If it
does not resolve, it takes about 1-2minutes for it to time out.

What you could do is if you manage your IP DNS info, and have reverse
delegation, setup a PTR to look like


@		IN	PTR	domain.com
*		IN	PTR	domain.com

That should take care of the reverse lookup problem.

BTW, If you do this in the gui, it may NOT like the "*", you can either add
all of your IP addresses, or try
just the network ID.
