I don't know if it is a good idea or not.
No, we are not doing it.
Our nameserver MX and associated 'A' records all look like this.
IN A 111.222.333.441
smtp IN A 111.222.333.441
pop IN A 111.222.333.441
IN MX 10 domain.com.
IN MX 20 backup.com.
We tell our clients to set their email client
to smtp.domain.com to send mail and
to pop.domain.com to receive their mail
We have been doing this since the RaQ2s and have
many RaQ3s and RaQ4s, they are all done the same way.
And there has never been a problem.
