That's your decision. If you build a PC yourself, you've got to worry
about compatible components, a 1u or 2u format case (colocation
companies generally charge by the "U"), and a power supply that will run
24/7 for years without overheating.
Gee jeff, they make 1u and 2 u cases now that are around $100.00, true, it
is hard to find old parts anymore to use in *nix boxes but, worth the time
just so you don't get stuck with a box that does not work as
advertised!.... and as for the power supply.... well all
ball-bearing fan's last for quite some time.

There are network cards, and then there are network cards. If you're
running a 450mHz RaQ on a T-1 it really doesn't matter. If you're
streaming a lot of Real content on a T-3, it does.
Jeff, jeff..... that is the most UN-INFORMED statement I have seen anyone
make on this list in quite some time...

You'll determine that as you start looking a products and prices. There
are just too many variables involved. I can spec mother boards from $65
to $600, for example. Power supplies from $23 to $400.
