RE: [cobalt-users] Upgrading RAQ 3i to 4i

In regards to the StaQware software, what is the feeling about the
performance and functionality of the software? Is it worth the $ and
investment in another RAQ?

The CMU (Cobalt Migration Utility) usually is fairly reliable.
http://www.cobalt.com/support/download/migration.html Make sure you read
and understand the instructions first. Copy /etc/named/records to the new
machine, then run /usr/admserv/cgi-bin/.cobalt/dns/index.cgi to regenerate
the DNS files. If you need to replace sitenumbers in scripts, IP addresses,
etc. grab rpl (a search/replace utility) from laffeycomputer.com. If you
run your own DNS reduce the TTL several days in advance. Be familiar with
the program meta-verify in case you run into problems. If you've installed
programs, modified config files, etc. make sure you manually backup data
files, license keys, config files, etc. If you run nameservers on the old
servers and will on the new servers be prepared to create new nameservers or
update the IPs of the nameservers. Problems can arise so I'd suggest making
your own comprehensive backups just in case and giving yourself plenty of
time to do the job right. The last migration I did for a client went
smoothly (2 RaQ4s to a single RaQ4 at a different colo), but in my
experience hiccups can occur and when the migration is between different RaQ
models these hiccups are more likely. Good luck with the migration.

What do you want to know?
