I agree with Phil. Everyone should stock their own spare replacement drives.
The RMA process can be time consuming and a failed drive should be replaced
within a couple hours TOPS. The best RMA process will take 2-3 days at a
minimum.
I also stock Spare: Fans, RAM, CPUs, and Power Supplies as well. Yes, I know
that SUN will usually replace a dead part (Even sometimes after the warrenty
expires) But I want to replace Dead parts within a couple Hours TOPS and
dealing with SUN can take days (Even weeks)! Besides spare parts are
usually cheap and downtime isn't!
My 2 cents!
Jeff

I would add to this,
If you are going out and buying two identical drives, get three!
When a drive fails you really don't get a lot of warning, you don't want to
be in a situation where one has failed and then the other dies while you are
awaiting a replacement. So fit the third drive as you are taking out the
duff one and you still have full integrity.
This really is the way big servers are managed, but I've not ever seen it
mentioned on here before.
Incidentally, I'm not aware of any manufacturers that offer less than a 3
year warranty (certainly in the UK) now, so don't be fobbed off by a dealer
that tells you otherwise!
