[cobalt-users] text editors relating 'customising UI' post

Hi,

In relation to my last post about customising the UI, can anyone point in
the right direction of using UNIX text editors.
The Cobalt Knowledgebase mentions that the files for the UI can be altered
by using a standard text editor.  What are they any how are they used?
I'm still a little green to the UNIX/Linux set-up so any help would be
appreciated!
