Hello,
I am a new owner of a brand new RAQ4r unit that we received today and we were wondering about the cooling fans. I've checked the KB, forums, and now wish to ask all of you this odd question:
Does the RAQ4r fans come online and stay on all the time? I figured practically all servers at least have the powersupply fan on at all times.. Our unit has yet to turn on its fans during initial boot up and since I was not sure if this was a temperature sensitive type unit where fans kick in when necessary, I wasn't sure if I just ended up with a bad unit.
I assume the fans are to be on at all times, am I correct in that assumption?
Things that I have tried per some of the correspondence I have seen and from some outside tips on the internet:
1) unplugged the fans from the motherboard while the unit was on. Thought that was a crazy thing to try, but I figured why not.
2) warm booted the machine several times without any luck.
3) left the unit on for several hours.
Temperature of the unit seems to hover around 40+ C.
I should note that when the unit is turned on initially, one of the fans actually spins up for a few seconds, then a clicking noise (kind of like a relay switch kicks in) and the fan stops.
Thanks for any insight on this. My guess is I have a bad machine?!
Dave
