I didn't say they did it any other way. ftp.domain.com just needs to
resolve to the proper IP to be able to use it since, as you know, FTP
protocol doesn't care what the URL is. The original poster had said he
set up www.domain.com and couldn't FTP to ftp.domain.com which he
apparently hadn't created either as a virtual site or CNAME or A record.
