I found this a while back on one of the RaQ help sites.. works a trick
Log in via ssh then
ls -Al /home/spool/mail/* | grep "\-rw\-*" | gawk {'print $5" "$3'} | grep
^[1-9]
You can then navigate to /home/spool/mail and
less username and read the mail without disturbing it as far as being
read/new or whatever..
Actually it is not necessary to read it, you can tell if there is mail in
the spool just by looking at the file size.
