I gave up trying to install OS update 2 via the GUI using the "from
location" option and ftp'd it directly into the packages folder on my
server, ie from the shell.
Once this had been done, the package displayed in the GUI and the update
went flawlessly;

[root /root]# cd /home/packages
[root /root]# wget
ftp://ftp.cobalt.com/pub/packages/raq4/eng/RaQ4-en-OSUpdate-2.0.pkg

What is the next step after putting this in the /home/packages directory? Does it appear in the control panel to be installed or do I need to run something from the command line?

It will now show in the GUI. There is a third option and it only shows up if there is something in the /home/packages directory. It is best to upload large files here. Run the install via the GUI after it is there. It would probably be best to remove or move them after the install as it will count against the root space allocation.
