I removed all references from the virtusertable and local-host-names and
rebuilt them. All references that I removed were for www.domain.com - there
were no entries for just domin.com since I did not set an e-mail server
alias.
I'm still seeing the same behavior. Mail destined for support@xxxxxxxxxx is
ending up in the spool file for support@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

check your virtusertable, and remove domain.com entries.
then run
/usr/bin/makemap hash /etc/mail/virtusertable.db < /etc/mail/virtusertable
