While the author of the article thinks so, I don't.  I think it's about
his fear of where HP is or isn't going that's driving the move.  Both
Ellison and McNealy have recently been looking at Linux.  And while yes,
Sun makes a lot of big iron unix servers, they're well positioned at
making smaller ones at well, not only RaQs and Qubes, but look at the
Sun Nextra starting at under $1,000 for a 1u unix server.
