RE: [cobalt-users] How do you test a URL using an IP address

Hi All,

How does one test a URL using the IP address of a RAQ3i, when we haven¹t yet
transferred the domain to our name servers and have it pointed to a RAQ.

Many thanks for any help.

Chris,
A little trick I learned from someone here on this list.
On you PC that you are wanting to test the site out from, open the HOSTS
file in your windows directory with notepad.
Enter a line at the end that defines your domain name to the site to the IP
of the RAQ.

Like:
123.45.67.89 mydomain.com

Then save the hosts file back, making sure it has no extention.

Now your PC will check this first, before checking a global DNS machine, and
your browser will request the domain from your RAQ's IP, and assuming you
have your virtual sites set up correctly, the RAQ will answer the request
with the appropriate virtual site's files.

If your using a Mac, I don't know how to fix that.
