OK. I suspected hardware as well.

Well, hopefully the tech in the colo did that, yes. :) I have sent them
an e-mail, I suspect the ethernet card, but I'm not sure. Well, they
will have to figure that out then.
I got some replies back, also from linux-knowing-friends, and they all
pointed to hardware. I think I can be safe suspecting hardware failures
for this one.
