Take a look at these two items....

Aside from the part number and price, what is the difference between the two?

The first one is a 4i, Cobalt part number CBT-R46GJ4GIM and the second one is an invalid page If you really search their site for "Cobalt" you will find other products including Raq3's but not of these others are in stock. In other words, they are old pages. I found 76 items and there appears to be about 4 models that fit the same description. The unavailable models are more expensive and as stated unavailable. When the model came out it was about $2100 and now it is about $1400 or less. Or from the manufacturer $1750. Dealers have no reason to sell the product if the manufacturer will sell to the public at the same price they can sell it for. Thus it depends on the markup each vendor is looking to achieve as to their price.

In the retail world, it is not uncommon for the same product to have two different part numbers as to allow for different items to be sold in different stores. This way they don't have to do price matching. They weren't identical, they have different part numbers. It appears that on the Sun/Cobalt site the sell the "U" model and the Insight site they are now selling the "M" model.

Hi All,

Recently I requested a quote for several RAQ 4i's.

Here is what I found....

RAQ 4i 450mhz, 256mb, 20Gb CBT-R46GJGIM ~$1400

RAQ 4i 450mhz, 256mb, 20Gb R46GJ4GIU ~$2100

My question is, although the single line description of these two items is identical, its obvious by the part number that they are not the same. I have noticed that any item with the CBT- preceding it is typically hundreds of dollars less.

Does any one have an explanation for this? How about a complete accurate listing of SunCobalt's part number reference and descriptions??

I have been on both the Sun site and Cobalt site and cannot find any references to the distinctions I seek.

Thank you,

Scott

_________

The Cobalt has no reference to the CBT-R46GJGIM and neither does the sun site at this time
but it does have a CBT-R46GJ4GIU
http://www.cobalt.com/products/raq/howtobuy.html
What I do find is that is a CBT-R46GJ4GIM
It appears that the last letter is the country that the product is sold in
U - is United States
K - is United Kingdom
J - is Japan
E - is Europe
A - is Australia
M - is listed but with no country.

You might read through
http://krusty.uen.org/prices/USEUPL/US-SUNCONFIG-Dec04

Where do you find the cheaper price?

It appears on newer models that there are only three models. A Japanese, one for the European Union and one for the US and Australia.
