some4 information from a fellow list member that may be useful to some of you that want to remove the PHP updating from the new pkg:

no need - just remove the php rpm from the pkg archive as follows:
mkdir somedir
cd somedir
tar -zxvf pathtopkg/RaQ4-en-OSUpdate-2.0.pkg
rm RPMS/php-4.0.3pl1-C1r4.i386.rpm
tar -zcvf pathtopkg/RaQ4-en-OSUpdate-2.0.pkg
you might want to use a different name new package file like
RaQ4-en-OSUpdate-2.0a.pkg
The way the update_me script works (the package installer script) is it
installs all the rpms in RPMS unconditionally.
