Neomail isn't an IMAP client, it uses the mail spool directly. I use squirrel because it is an imap client, and I have been forced
to move to courier for performance reasons (primarily Maildir support), because neomail couldn't cope with 3,000 users. Be warned,
Squirrel will do a lot of authentication (presumably because it re-authenticates against IMAP for each request), so ensure you
configure it for a hashed password database.
Squirrel has one major problem, which is that it modifies, opens and deletes by index not UID. This makes it slightly dangerous, and
unusable in a busy mailbox (where the probability of a new mail arriving within 10 seconds exceeds a threshold).
Cheers,
Ben Liddicott
