That's one order every 20 minutes, hell, a pocket calculator can handle
that :P

Well according to you access can not handle half of that?

And a hit every few minutes....big deal

Every hit needs to be generated from the database, so it is a big deal!.

And the scalability is where? When the site gets really big and mega hits
what do you do ? redesign the entire thing all over from scratch again to
now use SQL ?

Re-design?.... no you change the data source in the cold fusion engine to read SQL, and up size access in to SQL.

Going around challenging people to break your server isn't too bright imho

It will not break IMHO.

No, they cry foul when the benchmarks focus on a particular type of test
case that does not represent real works usage, it's easy to serve some
kinds of content, harder to serve others...And application flexability far
outweighs raw speen in anycase, most web servers are considerable
overpowered for basic needs to start with..

That is because the ADMIN'S do not know how to get the most out of there machines.

CPU power is dirt cheap, design and implimentation labor, upgrade,
support, and software licencing are where the costs are.

If yo spend a fortune, it might so many of the things, but it will never
to *all* , only many, or some...and it will cost you

You get what you pay for man!.....

Oh, just to let you know... I am back doing "data recovery" on all types of media, and all the internal network stuff as well, working on getting our website in-house.

This means I get to see all the FUC*up's from all OS platforms, some days it is windows ME in dell's, but most of the raid's are on red hat with the super block spanned across 3 physical drives.... and this is something the user does..... dumb, dumb, dumb..... but give a newbie a chance to do something and he will.

Oh, the company is http://www.adv-data.com (Shameless Plug) :)

I admit SUN does assume a certain level of competance on the part of their
end users, like the ability to follow simple directions, Havn't seen a
cobalt for dummies book yet...

They should make one for people like you and me :)

Hmm, no where on sun documentation do i see the words "can be administered
by an idiot" ;)

Talk to there sales people, they say something different.
