Guess, what, the limit has nothing to do with Cobalt, or Windows, or
anything else. It's a limitation of the FTP protocol. It doesn't work
on ANY system.

I'd love to see actual numbers from actual tests.

W2k Advanced Server is about $5,000, but if you're an established
hosting company with customers, you can attend an all-day seminar and
get it for free (how did you think they were improving market share?).
We attended two seminars and got two. We even use one.

I did not know about these seminars... where do I look up the info on them?

But that only allows 25 people to use authenticated services at a time.
Authenticated services includes things like (regular, not anonymous)
ftp, ssl, .htaccess type access, and the like.

If you need to allow more than 25 browsers at a time to do these things
you can buy separate user packs, or the Internet Access license for
another $2,000. And they don't give that away.

On this we thoroughly disagree. Cobalt is quite proprietary. Both
hardware and software. It's based on Linux 6.2, but it's quite
proprietary.

(Overnight shipment of two of those little fans is costing us $75
<frown>, as only one example.) The power supply sure isn't standard.
Neither is the motherboard. The hard-drive is. That's about it, from a
hardware perspective.

If you don't believe me, go buy any good Linux 6.2 administration book,
and follow it, and expect everything to keep working <wry grin>.
