Hello List,
Question is simple although answer might not be:
How many machines (Raq3's or 4's) do you think an average system
admin can administer remotely ?
Parameters:
-an average system admin is somebody who knows Linux pretty well,
knows how to install stuff from source, knows security problems
-Raq's would be running an average of a 100 web site, some basics,
some with php/mysql features requiring to go a little bit beyond the
GUI
-Raq's would be geared with a medium to high security features (ssh
and so forth..)
-access would be remote only (and I think this is kind of more
difficult compared to just connecting locally, especially in terms
of speed)
-admin would also handle creating new accounts and modifications but
not invoicing or such similar tasks and would work, let's say, 40
hours/week (I wish).
I'm hoping to estimate what the load is, like one admin can handle
10 servers (again on average, I know when everything breaks it would
be better to be 10 but..) or one admin can handle 100 servers.
I understand my question might seem intrusive to some who don't want
to publish that kind of information, however if they want to, they
can answer to me privately, you have my word that the information
provided will be used only in a statistical approach and not to say
that such company only has x admins versus this one using y.
Thanks a lot.
