There's nothing magical about TLDs. Heck, you could load the
ORSC root zone file and utilize the .faq TLD. (Please nobody try
this without first STFWing and knowing what's involved. I chose
that example very deliberately.)
As a rule of thumb, try going to www.nic.vg first. It works in
this case, with a 302 that will give one source.
It's also worth doing a 'dig' on the TLD in question to see if
that gives you any info:
dig vg. ns
in this case wasn't very helpful.

Finally, www.geektools.com is often useful. Not a direct answer
to your question, but (IMHO) worth pointing out.
