Hi,
I've just started to look after a Raq4 server - I've
not got a lot of UNIX\Linux experience but I'm
learning.
The problem is the software on the server hasn't been
upgraded since it was bought. Not sure when that was
but it all seems pretty old stuff.
In the short term I need to upgrade PHP and get mySQL
installed (I've got the .PGK files from
http://pkg.nl.cobalt.com).
I need to find a decent explanation of this process
that answers questions like:
Can I install PHP4 over the top of PHP3 or do I need
to un-install first?
How do I edit the php.ini file to enable mySQL
support?
In the longer term I want to know how important it is
to get the software up to date on the server?
I've found some updates but I'm not sure they aren't
to new without the older ones first.
I've been looking at this list for a while and I
haven't found anything this basic - I hope this is the
right place to ask. I've also had a good look on the
SUN Cobalt site.
Thanks in advance,
Tim King.
